1 Peter 2:24-25
As we continue on in our look at 1 Peter on God’s Daytimer, our verse for today is:
1 Peter 2:24-25 (NIV)
24He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. 25For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
Over the last couple of weeks we have been considering Peter’s challenge to us to live “such good lives” that we might have an impact on the world. We have been looking at some of the ways that we can put some action steps to the challenge to live these kind of lives. Today’s verse, tells us where the power to actually make these changes come from, it comes from the cross. At the Cross, Jesus made a way for us to be free from the power of sin and death, and that in Him we might have an experience real life. Because of His wounds, our wounds (which we have received from living in a fallen world and broken planet and because we have often chosen to do the wrong thing instead of the righ thing) can know be healed. Set free from the bondage of guilt and shame we can be healed and made whole as we return to Jesus, the Shepherd and Overseer of our souls. All of this will allow us to now live for righteousness, to live lives that are pleasing to God, satisfying to us, and that have an impact on the world around us.
Be blessed and kept!
