Remembering the People of Haiti

Today on God’s Daytimer I would encourage all of you to pray for the people in Haiti and to seek God for anything else that He might have you do. Today’s verse is about this very thing:

Galatians 2:10
All they asked was that we should continue to remember the poor, the very thing I was eager to do.

You should go and read the verse in context. Paul is explaining how he had been given the task of preaching to the gentiles and had been given the right hand of fellowship from James, Peter, and John. What I think we need to see in the verse that Paul was eager to help and remember the poor. I am sure that most of you are feeling the same way as you have the seen pictures of devastation that have come out of Haiti. As I have been praying I have also been looking for ways to help. I am suggesting a few ways that I feel comfortable with after quite a few phone calls to different agencies, etc. Perhaps you might consider one of the following:

Consider making a donation to one of the following agencies:

World Vision www.worldvision.org

Mission of Hope Haiti www.missionofhopehaiti.org

Or you give to the Red Cross by texting Haiti to the number 90999 from your cell phone.

In the future there will some opportunities for hands on ministry through Vineyard Mercy Response who plan on taking teams down once the initial crisis is under control to help rebuild churches and then to help those churches rebuild homes. Please continue to pray for God’s peace and comfort, power and mercy to touch the people of Haiti.

1 Corinthians 1:18

Welcome to Online Bible Studies

Today’s Bible verse is
1 Corinthians 1:18 (NIV)
18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

Let’s read the verse in context:
1 Corinthians 1:18-31 (NIV)
18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.” 20 Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 22 Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24 but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength. 26 Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things–and the things that are not–to nullify the things that are, 29 so that no one may boast before him. 30 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God–that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. 31 Therefore, as it is written: “Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.”

Today’s Quiet Time with God

AS I read today’s verse I am reminded of how often people who believe in Christ are considered “foolish” by the “intelligent and sophisticated” parts of our society. People are often amazed that anyone living in the 21st century could still believe in something that they have reduced to “myths, fairy tales, and childrens stories”. And yet, we are called to somehow present the Good News to these same people who mock and make fun of us. How do reach them? It will happen as we demonstrate the amazing love of God to them. All of us should be looking and praying for opportunities to love people well, so that they can see past their hardened hearts and discover the love of God themselves. Be Blessed!

Galatians 6:9-10 (MSG)

Welcome to Online Bible Studies

Today’s Bible verse is
Galatians 6:9-10 (MSG)
9 So let’s not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good. At the right time we will harvest a good crop if we don’t give up, or quit. 10 Right now, therefore, every time we get the chance, let us work for the benefit of all, starting with the people closest to us in the community of faith.

Let’s read the verse in context:
Galatians 6:1-10 (MSG)
1 Live creatively, friends. If someone falls into sin, forgivingly restore him, saving your critical comments for yourself. You might be needing forgiveness before the day’s out. 2 Stoop down and reach out to those who are oppressed. Share their burdens, and so complete Christ’s law. 3 If you think you are too good for that, you are badly deceived. 4 Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given, and then sink yourself into that. Don’t be impressed with yourself. Don’t compare yourself with others. 5 Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life. 6 Be very sure now, you who have been trained to a self-sufficient maturity, that you enter into a generous common life with those who have trained you, sharing all the good things that you have and experience. 7 Don’t be misled: No one makes a fool of God. What a person plants, he will harvest. The person who plants selfishness, ignoring the needs of others—ignoring God!— 8 harvests a crop of weeds. All he’ll have to show for his life is weeds! But the one who plants in response to God, letting God’s Spirit do the growth work in him, harvests a crop of real life, eternal life. 9 So let’s not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good. At the right time we will harvest a good crop if we don’t give up, or quit. 10 Right now, therefore, every time we get the chance, let us work for the benefit of all, starting with the people closest to us in the community of faith.

Today’s Quiet Time with God

We have often talked about the fact that the best way for us to live out each day is by doing the “next right thing”. Today’s verse is a reminder to do just that even when we don’t feel like doing the next right thing, because at just the right time a harvest will come. So don’t give up or quit, and while you are waiting for the harvest, look for opportunities to bless others, and you will be blessed as you do!
