Acts 1:8

Welcome to Online Bible Studies

Today’s Bible verse is
Acts 1:8 (NIV)
8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Let’s read the verse in context:
Acts 1:1-11 (NIV)
1 In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach 2 until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen. 3 After his suffering, he showed himself to these men and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. 4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. 5 For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” 6 So when they met together, they asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” 9 After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. 10 They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. 11 “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

Today’s Quiet Time with God

Yesterday we looked at the great commission in Matthew 28:18-20. “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations…”. Today’s verse shows us where the power comes from to fulfill the commission. The Holy Spirit fills us and empowers us so that we can be “witnesses” for Jesus, spreading the Good News to our city, our state, our country and to the very ends of the earth. We can all start the process by looking for ways to impact the people we meet every day with the Gospel. Ask God to set up some divine appointments for you today!

Romans 15:13

Welcome to Online Bible Studies

Today’s Bible verse is
Romans 15:13 (NIV)
13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Let’s read the verse in context:
Romans 15:1-13 (NIV)
1 We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. 2 Each of us should please his neighbor for his good, to build him up. 3 For even Christ did not please himself but, as it is written: “The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.” 4 For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. 5 May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, 6 so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. 7 Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God. 8 For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the Jews on behalf of God’s truth, to confirm the promises made to the patriarchs 9 so that the Gentiles may glorify God for his mercy, as it is written: “Therefore I will praise you among the Gentiles; I will sing hymns to your name.” 10 Again, it says, “Rejoice, O Gentiles, with his people.” 11 And again, “Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles, and sing praises to him, all you peoples.” 12 And again, Isaiah says, “The Root of Jesse will spring up, one who will arise to rule over the nations; the Gentiles will hope in him.” 13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Today’s Quiet Time with God

Today’s verse is a great promise to remember when you are having a hard day, or week, or month, etc. I like the description “the God of hope”. It is a wonderful description of our heavenly “daddy”. The promise is that as you trust in Him, He will fill you with joy and peace so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. I think we should put our trust in Him. It is easy to get side tracked and start trusting in things that we think might work, but anything we trust in instead of God will always ultimately disappoint us. Put your trust completely in the Lord today, you will be blessed as you do, and the world could use a little overflowing HOPE!

1 Corinthians 2:9

Today’s Bible verse is
1 Corinthians 2:9 (NIV)
9 However, as it is written: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him”–

Let’s read the verse in context:
1 Corinthians 2:1-16 (NIV)
1 When I came to you, brothers, I did not come with eloquence or superior wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. 2 For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 3 I came to you in weakness and fear, and with much trembling. 4 My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, 5 so that your faith might not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power. 6 We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. 7 No, we speak of God’s secret wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. 8 None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9 However, as it is written: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him”– 10 but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11 For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man’s spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. 14 The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man’s judgment: 16 “For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

Today’s Quiet Time with God

Today’s verse is about salvation. The amazing blessing of salvation were prepared by the Father, they were carried about by the Son (Jesus at the cross), and they are applied by the Holy Spirit. The result of this salvation is a love for God by the people who have received this amazing gift (all of us who believe). Have you spent any time lately thinking about how amazing the gift of salvation is? I think sometimes we can get so caught up in our day to day lives that we forget the eternal reality of our lives. This life is not all there is. What lies ahead is far better than we can imagine. We will spend eternity with God. No more tears, pain, or sorrow. God will be all in all. If we think about what is ahead of us from time to time, it will help us to live in the present the way that God intends us to. Not just enduring, but thriving. The life of a believer in Christ is a great adventure. A forever adventure. Take some time today to thank God that He has made a way for us in Christ to be saved. You will be blessed as you do!
