Isaiah 6:8

Welcome to Online Bible Studies

Today’s Bible verse is
Isaiah 6:8 (NIV)
8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

Let’s read the verse in context:
Isaiah 6:1-8 (NIV)
1 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2 Above him were seraphs, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. 3 And they were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.” 4 At the sound of their voices the door posts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke. 5 “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty.” 6 Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.” 8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

Today’s Quiet Time with God

I love the imagery of today’s context verse. Try and imagine being Isaiah and walking in to a setting that is so glorious that you are so completely in awe that you can only cry out “Woe to me” because in the midst of God’s holiness you feel completely unworthy. I love the idea of the seraphs calling back and forth “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory”, as the door posts and thresholds shake and the temple fills with smoke. A seraph comes and touches Isaiah’s mouth with a hot coal from the altar and his sin is atoned for. When the Lord says, who will go for us Isaiah says, “Here I am, send me”!

Now that we have had our sin atoned for in Christ, and with the amazing privilege of having access to the throne of grace by His blood, we too should cry out to the Lord, “Here I am, send me”. Make that your prayer today, you will be blessed as you do!

1 Peter 2:9-10

Welcome to Online Bible Studies

Today’s Bible verse is
1 Peter 2:9-10 (NIV)
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

Let’s read the verse in context:
1 Peter 2:1-12 (NIV)
Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good. As you come to him, the living Stone–rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him–you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For in Scripture it says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.” Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, “The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone, and, “A stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall.” They stumble because they disobey the message–which is also what they were destined for. But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul. Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.

Today’s Quiet Time with God

Today’s verse reminds us of who we are in Christ. We are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God. What an amazing identity we have in Him. I love the descriptions; chosen, royal, holy, belonging. As we let this understanding of who we are in Christ sink in, it will have a huge impact on our lives. We are so quick to run ourselves down. So quick to believe the unkind or hurtful things that have been said to us over our lifetimes, that it is hard for us to believe the full impact of what Christ has done for us. As we walk into our new identity, our response is to declare the praises of Him who called us out of darkness into His marvelous light. We respond to our new lives, our new identity, our new start, by praising God. He has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and brought us into His eternal Kingdom. Take some time today to reflect on who you are in Christ, you will be blessed as you do!

1 Peter 2:11

Today’s Quiet Time with God

As believers, we are now the people of God. That is an amazing thought. These verses encourage us to live our lives in such a way that people who don’t know God are drawn to Him. One of the excuses I hear from people all the time about why they don’t go to church is that they think the people in church are hypocrites. I understand that it is not a valid excuse, and that it is usually not really the issue, but, how are we to live? I am aware that for some people, I am the only Bible they might ever read. I am also aware that I am not perfect and I continue to make mistakes and bad choices. Ultimately, though, my heart’s desire is to live life in such a way that it is pleasing to God. I always get back to this; we need to live this life doing the next right thing. I believe that as we do it will impact people for the Kingdom of God. Spend some time to day thinking about how your life can impact the lives of others. You will be blessed as you do!
