3 John 1:2

Welcome to Online Bible Studies

Today’s Bible verse is
3 John 1:2 (NIV)
2 Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.

Let’s read the verse in context:
3 John 1:1-14 (NIV)
1 The elder, To my dear friend Gaius, whom I love in the truth. 2 Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well. 3 It gave me great joy to have some brothers come and tell about your faithfulness to the truth and how you continue to walk in the truth. 4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth. 5 Dear friend, you are faithful in what you are doing for the brothers, even though they are strangers to you. 6 They have told the church about your love. You will do well to send them on their way in a manner worthy of God. 7 It was for the sake of the Name that they went out, receiving no help from the pagans. 8 We ought therefore to show hospitality to such men so that we may work together for the truth. 9 I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first, will have nothing to do with us. 10 So if I come, I will call attention to what he is doing, gossiping maliciously about us. Not satisfied with that, he refuses to welcome the brothers. He also stops those who want to do so and puts them out of the church.
11 Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God. 12 Demetrius is well spoken of by everyone–and even by the truth itself. We also speak well of him, and you know that our testimony is true. 13 I have much to write you, but I do not want to do so with pen and ink. 14 I hope to see you soon, and we will talk face to face. Peace to you. The friends here send their greetings. Greet the friends there by name.

Today’s Quiet Time with God

I like the way that John greets his friend Gaius in this letter.

“To my dear friend Gaius, whom I love in the truth. Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.”

That is a wonderful greeting. As you read these three short letters of John you might see that there are three topics that run throughout. Love, Joy, and Truth. If you read the letters again with those words in your mind, you will see that they come up over and over. I think John is letting us know that these are some of the most important principles we can know and live out. Love, joy, and truth. They are connected and you can’t enjoy one of them without the other two being involved. Walk in “Love” and experience “Joy” in the “Truth” today. You will be blessed as you do!

Romans 12:9

Welcome to Online Bible Studies

Today’s Bible verse is
Romans 12:9 (NIV)
9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.

Let’s read the verse in context:
Romans 12:9-21 (NIV)
9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13 Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. 14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.
15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. 17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19 Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. 20 On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Today’s Quiet Time with God

Love must be sincere! Paul writes those words and then he proceeds to define what sincere love looks like in the rest of verse 9 through the end of verse 21. It is really quite an amazing list. I want to encourage you to take a few minutes and write down the list of what sincere love looks like. Your list should look like this:

Sincere Love List

1. Hate what is evil
2. Cling to what is good
3. Be dvoted to one another in brotherly love
4. Honor one another above yourselves
5. Never be lacking in zeal
6. Keep your spiritual fervor
7. Serve the Lord
8. Be joyful in hope
9. ……

You get the idea. Finish the list so that it includes all of the descriptions of sincere love that Paul gives. Then, take your list and practice sincere love throughout the day. It will change your perspective and your life and you will be blessed as you do!

Psalm 5:11-12

Welcome to Online Bible Studies

Today’s Bible verse is
Psalms 5:11-12 (NIV)
11 But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you. 12 For surely, O LORD, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.

Let’s read the verse in context:
Psalms 5:1-12 (NIV)
1 Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my sighing. 2 Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for to you I pray. 3 In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation. 4 You are not a God who takes pleasure in evil; with you the wicked cannot dwell. 5 The arrogant cannot stand in your presence; you hate all who do wrong. 6 You destroy those who tell lies; bloodthirsty and deceitful men the LORD abhors. 7 But I, by your great mercy, will come into your house; in reverence will I bow down toward your holy temple. 8 Lead me, O LORD, in your righteousness because of my enemies– make straight your way before me. 9 Not a word from their mouth can be trusted; their heart is filled with destruction. Their throat is an open grave; with their tongue they speak deceit. 10 Declare them guilty, O God! Let their intrigues be their downfall. Banish them for their many sins, for they have rebelled against you. 11 But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Today’s Quiet Time with God

I like the idea of being surrounded by God’s favor and in His blessing! This favor and blessing is available to all who take refuge in Him. Jesus is our refuge and we find refuge in Him as we accept and believe all that He has done for us at the cross. We are encouraged by this verse to be glad and sing for joy. Take a few minutes today to sing for joy to the Lord, you will be blessed as you do!
