Mark 8:29

Welcome to Online Bible Studies

Today’s Bible verse is
Mark 8:29 (NIV)
29 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “You are the Christ.”

Let’s read the verse in context:
Mark 8:27-38 (NIV)
27 Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, “Who do people say I am?” 28 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets.” 29 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “You are the Christ.” 30 Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about him. 31 He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again. 32 He spoke plainly about this, and Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. 33 But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me, Satan!” he said. “You do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men.” 34 Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 35 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it. 36 What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? 37 Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? 38 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”

Today’s Quiet Time with God

Today’s verse poses a powerful question. Jesus asks plainly “But who do you say that I am?” Peter’s answer, “You are the Christ”, is correct. but what does that mean to you and I. Do we answer Jesus question with just our words, or does the realization that He is the Christ impact our entire lives. Take some time today to think about how knowing Jesus as your Lord and Savior impacts your life. You will be blessed as you do!

Have You Joined the Church Online?

I have an idea that I want to run by all of you who are so faithful in reading God’s Daytimer. I am planning on starting a “Church Online“. This church online will not simply be an extension of the church I currently Pastor, it will be a “new thing”. I envision it as more than just a place to come and watch or listen to sermons and Bible studies. I see it as people from all over the world connecting to encourage and pray for each other, as well as a vehicle for providing all types of ministry opportunities for everyone involved, in order to reach out to people every where with the Good News. I hope over time to have thousands of believers and non-believers from all over the world coming to see what is happening at the Church Online.

Before I jump headlong into the the project, I am asking for 100 people that will join up to pray for and be a part of the initial core group of believers what will serve as the foundation for the Church Online. I am hoping that many of you will be a part of this initial group. If this is something that you can do, just go to the new Church Online website. It is still very plain and simple with no bells and whistles. I don’t want to add all that stuff until we have the first 100 people involved. Once you are at the new site, you will see a place to “join” by subscribing to the free RSS or email feed. The counter of how many people have signed up is displayed as well. So far it is just me. Once we reach 100, we will start moving on really getting the Church Online started. If you can take a few minutes, please go check out the site by clicking here Church Online, or, the web address is www.internetchurchonline.com. Read the short article there and then sign up for the free email subscription. I look forward to partnering with all of you to advance the Kingdom of God!

Psalm 31:14-15

Welcome to Online Bible Studies

Today’s Bible verse is
Psalms 31:14-15 (NIV)
14 But I trust in you, O LORD; I say, “You are my God.” 15 My times are in your hands; deliver me from my enemies and from those who pursue me.

Let’s read the verse in context:
Psalms 31:9-16 (NIV)
9 Be merciful to me, O LORD, for I am in distress; my eyes grow weak with sorrow, my soul and my body with grief. 10 My life is consumed by anguish and my years by groaning; my strength fails because of my affliction, and my bones grow weak. 11 Because of all my enemies, I am the utter contempt of my neighbors; I am a dread to my friends– those who see me on the street flee from me. 12 I am forgotten by them as though I were dead; I have become like broken pottery. 13 For I hear the slander of many; there is terror on every side; they conspire against me and plot to take my life. 14 But I trust in you, O LORD; I say, “You are my God.” 15 My times are in your hands; deliver me from my enemies and from those who pursue me. 16 Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love.

Today’s Quiet Time with God

When I read the first part of today’s context reading (verses 9-13), I always think that David was having a really bad day. I love the way his focus changes when He gets to verse 14. “I trust in you, O LORD; I say, “You are my God….My times are in your hands;”. Our times are in His hands. When I begin to get unsettled about anything, this is one of the verses I think I about. My times are in His hands. In that simple truth I am reminded that He is in control. Life seems to go along a lot better when I remember that He is control and that He is my Shepherd. It is only then that I really am able to rest and be at peace. When life starts to get a little crazy this week, just take a moment and remember that your times are in His hands. You will be blessed as you do!

Hebrews 13:6

Welcome to Online Bible Studies

Today’s Bible verse is
Hebrews 13:6 (NIV)
6 So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?”

Let’s read the verse in context:
Hebrews 13:1-8 (NIV)
1 Keep on loving each other as brothers. 2 Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it. 3 Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering. 4 Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. 5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” 6 So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” 7 Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Today’s Quiet Time with God

I think that today’s verse is a great reminder of where we are to focus our trust and hope. The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid. In this season where we are dealing with a constant flow of bad news and what-if scenarios, we need to remember that the Lord is our helper and we have no reason to be afraid. Every time you begin to get that uneasy feeling, take a moment and remember today’s verse. “So I say with confidence, the Lord is my helper. I will not be afraid!” You will be blessed as you do!
