Titus 3:1-2

Welcome to Online Bible Studies

Today’s Bible verse is
Titus 3:1-2 (NIV)
1 Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, 2 to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men.

Let’s read the verse in context:
Titus 3:1-11 (NIV)
1 Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, 2 to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men. 3 At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. 4 But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. 8 This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone. 9 But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable and useless. 10 Warn a divisive person once, and then warn him a second time. After that, have nothing to do with him. 11 You may be sure that such a man is warped and sinful; he is self-condemned.

Today’s Quiet Time with God

I just ran across today’s verse as I was reading and it jumped out at me. I was thinking about how hard this verse might seem to people. In our current political culture it is very hard to slander no one. How are we to show true humility to all men? Here is what I know to be true. When we are faced with a scripture that puts us at odds with our current thinking, it is not the scripture that is wrong. I think it is important that we take time on a regular basis to see who or what we have our trust in. Anytime we are trusting in anything other than God, we will not be at peace. As the saying goes:

Know Jesus, know peace! No Jesus, no peace!

Take some time today to love on God and let God love on you, you will be blessed as you do.

2 Corinthians 10:5

Welcome to Online Bible Studies

Today’s Bible verse is
2 Corinthians 10:5 (NIV)
5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

Let’s read the verse in context:
2 Corinthians 10:1-11 (NIV)
1 By the meekness and gentleness of Christ, I appeal to you–I, Paul, who am “timid” when face to face with you, but “bold” when away! 2 I beg you that when I come I may not have to be as bold as I expect to be toward some people who think that we live by the standards of this world. 3 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 6 And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your obedience is complete. 7 You are looking only on the surface of things. If anyone is confident that he belongs to Christ, he should consider again that we belong to Christ just as much as he. 8 For even if I boast somewhat freely about the authority the Lord gave us for building you up rather than pulling you down, I will not be ashamed of it. 9 I do not want to seem to be trying to frighten you with my letters. 10 For some say, “His letters are weighty and forceful, but in person he is unimpressive and his speaking amounts to nothing.” 11 Such people should realize that what we are in our letters when we are absent, we will be in our actions when we are present.

Today’s Quiet Time with God

In yesterday’s Online Bible Study we discussed the amazing promise that God always provided a way out when we are tempted. I said that we got to choose whether we took God’s way or gave in to the temptation. Today’s verse tells us about the power we have available to us in Christ to make the right decision. Our weapons have divine power to demolish strongholds. Our major weapon is the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. When we know God’s word, we are able to take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ. When you get a thought, take it to the Word, if it doesn’t measure up, then you know that it is not worth thinking about! We demolish that thought with the power of the Word of God. Take some time today to thank God for the gift of His Word, you will be blessed as you do!
