Romans 15:13

Welcome to Online Bible Studies

Today’s Bible verse is
Romans 15:13 (NIV)
13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Let’s read the verse in context:
Romans 15:1-13 (NIV)
1 We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. 2 Each of us should please his neighbor for his good, to build him up. 3 For even Christ did not please himself but, as it is written: “The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.” 4 For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. 5 May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, 6 so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. 7 Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God. 8 For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the Jews on behalf of God’s truth, to confirm the promises made to the patriarchs 9 so that the Gentiles may glorify God for his mercy, as it is written: “Therefore I will praise you among the Gentiles; I will sing hymns to your name.” 10 Again, it says, “Rejoice, O Gentiles, with his people.” 11 And again, “Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles, and sing praises to him, all you peoples.” 12 And again, Isaiah says, “The Root of Jesse will spring up, one who will arise to rule over the nations; the Gentiles will hope in him.” 13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Today’s Quiet Time with God

Today’s verse is a great promise to remember when you are having a hard day, or week, or month, etc. I like the description “the God of hope”. It is a wonderful description of our heavenly “daddy”. The promise is that as you trust in Him, He will fill you with joy and peace so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. I think we should put our trust in Him. It is easy to get side tracked and start trusting in things that we think might work, but anything we trust in instead of God will always ultimately disappoint us. Put your trust completely in the Lord today, you will be blessed as you do, and the world could use a little overflowing HOPE!

Proverbs 3:7-8

Welcome to Online Bible Studies

God’s Daytimer has a new look. Check it out and let me know what you think!

Today’s Bible verse is
Proverbs 3:7-8 (NIV)
Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.

Let’s read the verse in context:
Proverbs 3:1-10 (NIV)
My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity. Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones. Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.

Today’s Quiet Time with God

Don’t be wise in your own eyes. This is something that trip us up quite often. We often struggle with pride. Our pride gets us in a lot of trouble. Our pride causes us to do things we shouldn’t do. Our pride keeps us from admitting we need help. Or pride keeps us from admitting we were wrong. The Bible tells us that God actually opposes the proud. Think about that, your pride will put you in opposition with God. That is not where I want to be. Today’s verse encourages us to be humble. To lean not on our own understanding. To acknowledge Him in all our ways. In these verses there are some amazing promises for being humble. Favor, a good name, straight paths, health, nourishment, and overflowing barns. Spend some time today thinking about the goodness of God. You will be blessed as you do!
