Mark 6:31

Welcome to Online Bible Studies

Today’s Bible verse is
Mark 6:31 (NIV)
31 Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”

Let’s read the verse in context:
Mark 6:30-44 (NIV)
30 The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught. 31 Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” 32 So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place. 33 But many who saw them leaving recognized them and ran on foot from all the towns and got there ahead of them. 34 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things. 35 By this time it was late in the day, so his disciples came to him. “This is a remote place,” they said, “and it’s already very late. 36 Send the people away so they can go to the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.” 37 But he answered, “You give them something to eat.” They said to him, “That would take eight months of a man’s wages! Are we to go and spend that much on bread and give it to them to eat?” 38 “How many loaves do you have?” he asked. “Go and see.” When they found out, they said, “Five–and two fish.” 39 Then Jesus directed them to have all the people sit down in groups on the green grass. 40 So they sat down in groups of hundreds and fifties. 41 Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to his disciples to set before the people. He also divided the two fish among them all. 42 They all ate and were satisfied, 43 and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces of bread and fish. 44 The number of the men who had eaten was five thousand.

Today’s Quiet Time with God

As I was reading through Mark chapter 6 today’s verse jumped out at me and I was taken once again by the incredible compassion of Jesus. It is demonstrated in the context reading as well as he feed the hungry crowd, but I love His concern for His disciples. “Come with me, to a quiet place, by yourselves, and get some rest”. I was thinking that there are probably a lot of you who are feeling a little stressed and overwhelmed. I think you should take Jesus up on His invitation and go with Him, to a quiet place, by yourself, and get some rest. Take a few minutes away from the business of the day, and hang out with Jesus. You will find rest for your soul and you will be blessed!

Have You Joined the Church Online?

I have an idea that I want to run by all of you who are so faithful in reading God’s Daytimer. I am planning on starting a “Church Online“. This church online will not simply be an extension of the church I currently Pastor, it will be a “new thing”. I envision it as more than just a place to come and watch or listen to sermons and Bible studies. I see it as people from all over the world connecting to encourage and pray for each other, as well as a vehicle for providing all types of ministry opportunities for everyone involved, in order to reach out to people every where with the Good News. I hope over time to have thousands of believers and non-believers from all over the world coming to see what is happening at the Church Online.

Before I jump headlong into the the project, I am asking for 100 people that will join up to pray for and be a part of the initial core group of believers what will serve as the foundation for the Church Online. I am hoping that many of you will be a part of this initial group. If this is something that you can do, just go to the new Church Online website. It is still very plain and simple with no bells and whistles. I don’t want to add all that stuff until we have the first 100 people involved. Once you are at the new site, you will see a place to “join” by subscribing to the free RSS or email feed. The counter of how many people have signed up is displayed as well. So far it is just me. Once we reach 100, we will start moving on really getting the Church Online started. If you can take a few minutes, please go check out the site by clicking here Church Online, or, the web address is www.internetchurchonline.com. Read the short article there and then sign up for the free email subscription. I look forward to partnering with all of you to advance the Kingdom of God!

Mark 6:31

Today’s Quiet Time with God

In todays’ verse Jesus gives us some very important advice. The disciples are so busy they haven’t even had a chance to eat. Jesus gives them three principles that we all need to practice when we are getting overwhelmed.

  • Come With Me – Stop what you are doing, take a deep breath, and just spend a few minutes focusing on Jesus and remembering who He is
  • By Yourselves – You need to just step away for a few moments and get alone, just you and Him
  • To a Quiet Place – Get away from all distractions and just sit in the quiet. In just a few minutes you will begin to sense a difference.
  • It always amazes me how just a few minutes with God can change everything. Spend some time with Him today, you will be blessed as you do!

    Matthew 12:8

    Welcome to Online Bible Studies

    Today’s Bible verse is
    Matthew 12:8 (NIV)
8 For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”

Let’s read the verse in context:
    Matthew 12:1-8 (NIV)
1 At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry and began to pick some heads of grain and eat them. 2 When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him, “Look! Your disciples are doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath.” 3 He answered, “Haven’t you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry? 4 He entered the house of God, and he and his companions ate the consecrated bread–which was not lawful for them to do, but only for the priests. 5 Or haven’t you read in the Law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple desecrate the day and yet are innocent? 6 I tell you that one greater than the temple is here. 7 If you had known what these words mean, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the innocent. 8 For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”

    Today’s Quiet Time with God

Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath. So what is the Sabbath? The Sabbath is set down for us in the fourth commandment.

    Exodus 20:9-10 (NIV)
9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates.

Sabbath simply means a day of rest. When should you take your Sabbath? Jesus said it didn’t matter. The Sabbath was made for man not man for the Sabbath. What matters is you take one every week.

What are you supposed to do on your Sabbath? What should you do on your weekly day off?

Rest – Take a nap. Sit down for a while with no agenda.

Recreate – Do something you really enjoy. Have fun!

Refocus – Get your focus back on God. That is what worship is all about. Love on Him. Sing to Him. Talk to Him. Listen for Him.

When we don’t rest we are demonstrating that we really don’t take God at His word. It is so important, that the only One who needs no rest, took a day to model rest for us. Make sure you enjoy the gift of Sabbath every week, you will be blessed as you do!
