2 Timothy 2:22

Welcome to Online Bible Studies

Today’s Bible verse is
2 Timothy 2:22 (NIV)
22 Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

Let’s read the verse in context:
2 Timothy 2:15-26 (NIV)
15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. 16 Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly. 17 Their teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, 18 who have wandered away from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place, and they destroy the faith of some. 19 Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.” 20 In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for noble purposes and some for ignoble. 21 If a man cleanses himself from the latter, he will be an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work. 22 Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 23 Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. 24 And the Lord’s servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. 25 Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, 26 and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.

Today’s Quiet Time with God

Today’s verse gives us a great list of Godly pursuits. We are to pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace. These are the pursuits of all those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. As you read today’s context reading you also saw that we are to be kind to everyone and we are to avoid foolish and stupid arguments. I think we have our work cut out for us. Do your best this week to pursue all of these things, and let me encourage you again to do at least one act of kindness every day. You will be blessed as you do!

Proverbs 28:6

Welcome to Online Bible Studies

Today’s Bible verse is
Proverbs 28:6 (NKJV)
6 Better is the poor who walks in his integrity Than one perverse in his ways, though he be rich.

Let’s read the verse in context:
Proverbs 28:1-10 (NKJV)
1 The wicked flee when no one pursues, But the righteous are bold as a lion. 2 Because of the transgression of a land, many are its princes; But by a man of understanding and knowledge Right will be prolonged. 3 A poor man who oppresses the poor Is like a driving rain which leaves no food. 4 Those who forsake the law praise the wicked, But such as keep the law contend with them. 5 Evil men do not understand justice, But those who seek the Lord understand all. 6 Better is the poor who walks in his integrity Than one perverse in his ways, though he be rich. 7 Whoever keeps the law is a discerning son, But a companion of gluttons shames his father. 8 One who increases his possessions by usury and extortion Gathers it for him who will pity the poor. 9 One who turns away his ear from hearing the law, Even his prayer is an abomination. 10 Whoever causes the upright to go astray in an evil way, He himself will fall into his own pit; But the blameless will inherit good.

Today’s Quiet Time with God

A reminder about integrity is always a good way to start off a new week. Sometimes, when life is difficult, we might be tempted to take short cuts rather than walk in integrity. I like to think of integrity as living out what we say we believe is important. Or, in other words, what we say and what we do line up. When we live like this, we are living with integrity. We all know the old cliche, “Do as I say, not as I do”. This is a good description of a lack of integrity. Let’s try and do what we say each and every day. It is still about living life by doing the next right thing! Live with integrity today, you will be blessed as you do!

Proverbs 16:8

Welcome to Online Bible Studies

Today’s Bible verse is
Proverbs 16:8 (NIV)
8 Better a little with righteousness than much gain with injustice.

Let’s read the verse in context:
Proverbs 16:1-33 (NIV)
1 To man belong the plans of the heart, but from the LORD comes the reply of the tongue.
2 All a man’s ways seem innocent to him, but motives are weighed by the LORD.
3 Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.
4 The LORD works out everything for his own ends– even the wicked for a day of disaster.
5 The LORD detests all the proud of heart. Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished.
6 Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for; through the fear of the LORD a man avoids evil.
7 When a man’s ways are pleasing to the LORD, he makes even his enemies live at peace with him.
8 Better a little with righteousness than much gain with injustice.
9 In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps.
10 The lips of a king speak as an oracle, and his mouth should not betray justice.
11 Honest scales and balances are from the LORD; all the weights in the bag are of his making.
12 Kings detest wrongdoing, for a throne is established through righteousness.
13 Kings take pleasure in honest lips; they value a man who speaks the truth.
14 A king’s wrath is a messenger of death, but a wise man will appease it.
15 When a king’s face brightens, it means life; his favor is like a rain cloud in spring.
16 How much better to get wisdom than gold, to choose understanding rather than silver!
17 The highway of the upright avoids evil; he who guards his way guards his life.
18 Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.
19 Better to be lowly in spirit and among the oppressed than to share plunder with the proud.
20 Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers, and blessed is he who trusts in the LORD.
21 The wise in heart are called discerning, and pleasant words promote instruction.
22 Understanding is a fountain of life to those who have it, but folly brings punishment to fools.
23 A wise man’s heart guides his mouth, and his lips promote instruction.
24 Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.
25 There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.
26 The laborer’s appetite works for him; his hunger drives him on.
27 A scoundrel plots evil, and his speech is like a scorching fire.
28 A perverse man stirs up dissension, and a gossip separates close friends.
29 A violent man entices his neighbor and leads him down a path that is not good.
30 He who winks with his eye is plotting perversity; he who purses his lips is bent on evil.
31 Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained by a righteous life.
32 Better a patient man than a warrior, a man who controls his temper than one who takes a city.
33 The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the LORD.

Today’s Quiet Time with God

Today’s short verse is sure powerful. It seems that with all the finger pointing going on about the causes of the economic mess, the one common thread is greed. Greed is a tough thing. It often cause people to act out of character, somehow bringing the worst out in people. It is better to have a little with righteousness than a lot with injustice. All that we can do, even though life isn’t fair, is to do the next right thing. Keep you eyes on Jesus as you do, and you will be blessed!
