Hebrews 13:15-16

Welcome to Online Bible Studies

Today’s Bible verse is
Hebrews 13:15-16 (NIV)
15 Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise–the fruit of lips that confess his name. 16 And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

Let’s read the verse in context:
Hebrews 13:1-16 (NIV)
1 Keep on loving each other as brothers. 2 Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it. 3 Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering. 4 Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. 5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” 6 So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” 7 Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. 9 Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings. It is good for our hearts to be strengthened by grace, not by ceremonial foods, which are of no value to those who eat them. 10 We have an altar from which those who minister at the tabernacle have no right to eat. 11 The high priest carries the blood of animals into the Most Holy Place as a sin offering, but the bodies are burned outside the camp. 12 And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate to make the people holy through his own blood. 13 Let us, then, go to him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace he bore. 14 For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come. 15 Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise–the fruit of lips that confess his name. 16 And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

Today’s Quiet Time with God

Today’s verse reminds us that we are to CONTINUALLY offer to God a sacrifice of praise. We are to be a thankful people. As believers, those who confess His name, the fruit of our lips is thanksgiving. Through Christ we have been rescued out of darkness and brought into the eternal light. As a by-product of this amazing gift we have received in Christ, we are to share with others (Acts of Kindness) and do good (the next right thing). Live this day thanking God for the gift of eternal life, blessing the people around you with acts of kindness and words of encouragement, and even though life isn’t fair, do the next right thing. You will be blessed as you do!

Psalm 118:1

Psalms 118:1 (NIV)
1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.

Let’s read the verse in context:
Psalms 118:1-29 (NIV)
1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. 2 Let Israel say: “His love endures forever.” 3 Let the house of Aaron say: “His love endures forever.” 4 Let those who fear the LORD say: “His love endures forever.” 5 In my anguish I cried to the LORD, and he answered by setting me free. 6 The LORD is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? 7 The LORD is with me; he is my helper. I will look in triumph on my enemies. 8 It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man. 9 It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in princes. 10 All the nations surrounded me, but in the name of the LORD I cut them off. 11 They surrounded me on every side, but in the name of the LORD I cut them off. 12 They swarmed around me like bees, but they died out as quickly as burning thorns; in the name of the LORD I cut them off. 13 I was pushed back and about to fall, but the LORD helped me. 14 The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. 15 Shouts of joy and victory resound in the tents of the righteous: “The LORD’s right hand has done mighty things! 16 The LORD’s right hand is lifted high; the LORD’s right hand has done mighty things!” 17 I will not die but live, and will proclaim what the LORD has done. 18 The LORD has chastened me severely, but he has not given me over to death. 19 Open for me the gates of righteousness; I will enter and give thanks to the LORD. 20 This is the gate of the LORD through which the righteous may enter. 21 I will give you thanks, for you answered me; you have become my salvation. 22 The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone; 23 the LORD has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes. 24 This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. 25 O LORD, save us; O LORD, grant us success. 26 Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD. From the house of the LORD we bless you. 27 The LORD is God, and he has made his light shine upon us. With boughs in hand, join in the festal procession up to the horns of the altar. 28 You are my God, and I will give you thanks; you are my God, and I will exalt you. 29 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.

Today’s Quiet Time with God

Today’s verse is a good way to start off this Thanksgiving week. Psalm 118 starts and ends with the same encouragement, “Give thanks to the Lord for He is good, His love endures forever”. This is a good week to think about what you are thankful for. We tend to spend time thinking about what we don’t have, or what we wish we had, rather than being thankful for what we do have. I want to encourage you again to take a few minutes to write a gratitude list. On this list begin to write down everything in your life that you are thankful for. Taking time to write a list like this will help you get a new perspective. The attitude of gratitude is a powerful thing in the life of a believer. Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, and you will be blessed as you do!

Welcome to Online Bible Studies

Today’s Bible verse is
Psalms 118:24 (NIV)
This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Let’s read the verse in context:
Psalms 118:19-29 (NIV)
Open for me the gates of righteousness; I will enter and give thanks to the LORD. This is the gate of the LORD through which the righteous may enter. I will give you thanks, for you answered me; you have become my salvation. The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone; the LORD has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes. This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. O LORD, save us; O LORD, grant us success. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD. From the house of the LORD we bless you. The LORD is God, and he has made his light shine upon us. With boughs in hand, join in the festal procession up to the horns of the altar. Today’s Quiet Time with God

It is easy for us to get so caught up in all the bad things of life that we forget about how wonderful and marvelous our salvation really is. It is easy for us to complain and whine as life gets hard. It is so important to take some time to give thanks. We have a glorious future in store. We are promised that no matter what we go through here, somehow it will all be worth it. Take some time today to be thankful. Thank God for all of the blessings in your life. You will be blessed as you do!
