1 Peter 2:24-25
As we continue on in our look at 1 Peter on God’s Daytimer, our verse for today is:
1 Peter 2:24-25 (NIV)
24He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. 25For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
Over the last couple of weeks we have been considering Peter’s challenge to us to live “such good lives” that we might have an impact on the world. We have been looking at some of the ways that we can put some action steps to the challenge to live these kind of lives. Today’s verse, tells us where the power to actually make these changes come from, it comes from the cross. At the Cross, Jesus made a way for us to be free from the power of sin and death, and that in Him we might have an experience real life. Because of His wounds, our wounds (which we have received from living in a fallen world and broken planet and because we have often chosen to do the wrong thing instead of the righ thing) can know be healed. Set free from the bondage of guilt and shame we can be healed and made whole as we return to Jesus, the Shepherd and Overseer of our souls. All of this will allow us to now live for righteousness, to live lives that are pleasing to God, satisfying to us, and that have an impact on the world around us.

1 Peter 2:1
In thinking about the challenge that Peter makes yo us to be “holy” here on God’s Daytimer, I would like you to consider this verse:
1 Peter 2:1
1Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.
As I mentioned a couple of days ago, one of the best ways to display holiness is by loving well. Part of loving well is found in today’s verse, ultimately being fulfilled in watching what we say. My encouragement is to use our mouths for positive things. Building people up, encouraging them, extending words of truth, grace and mercy. Let us us try hard to keep from using our mouths for making negative comments about others or for engaging in gossip. Ask the Lord to show you when you are using your mouths to tear down instead of build up and to help you live good lives by using your mouths for His glory.
Be blessed and kept!
A Quick Apology
I wanted to apologize for the lack of posts over the last week and a half. I was away for most of the first week putting up a fence on some property near Ocala. I had chosen October as the time to undertake the project because I thought the weather would be nice and cool. Can you say Heat Wave? I was so tired at the end of every day that I couldn’t even turn the computer on. I have been busy with several situations since I got back, so I am only now able to get back to God’s Daytimer.
I am preparing for a Bible Study through the book of John which you will be able to watch or listen to on Internet Pastor Online in the weeks ahead. As I was studying today, I was really captivated by John 1:14.
14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only,[a] who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
How amazing is it, that the Word, the One through whom everything was created, became flesh and dwelt among us? How amazing, that His life and death and resurrection demonstrate His grace and truth. I felt truly blessed as I contemplated this powerful verse today and I hope that you will as well.
